MIL-V-62008B(AT)
e. Read both indicators within 8 seconds after arriving on target and again after a
1 hour period.
f. Verify that the gun has not moved more than 0.5 mil in elevation or traverse.
4.5.1.40.13 Elevation and traverse limit tests. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.11, the gun shall be operated in elevation, depression and traverse using power and manual controls individually and the angles measured in each of the defined areas.
4.5.1.40.14 Gun laying on stationary target test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.12 for acceptance testing, the gunsight reticle shall be brought within the borders of the target specified for positions three and five with gunner power controls and position three with manual controls. Two trials shall be made and the maximum time shall be used for final determination. All positions shown on table III shall be used when performing CT's at the Government proving grounds.
4.5.1.40.15 Operation on slope test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.13 for acceptance testing, the turret shall be placed on a 15 plus 2 , minus -1 slope and the gunsight reticle shall be brought within the borders of the target specified for positions three and five of table III. One determination shall be made for each position and direction specified using gunner power controls. Time limitation need not be met. All positions shown on table III shall be used when performing CT's at the Government proving grounds.
4.5.1.40.16 Turret locking test. To determine conformance to 3.6.13.14 with turret lock disengaged and the gun in forward position and elevated 3 to 8 , the vehicle shall be operated on smooth, level, hard-surfaced roads in low gear at speeds of 5 mph, then given a full steer 90
left turn and turret slippage noted on the azimuth indicator. This test shall be repeated with a full
steer 90 right turn. The vehicle shall be driven on a straight course over the break-in run track at 20 mph, stopped as specified, and the gun slippage noted with the M1A1 gunner quadrant.
The hand traverse crank and hand elevation crank shall be observed for conformance to specified requirements during the above tests.
4.5.l.40.17 Azimuth indicator test. To determine conformance to 3.6.16.2, the boresight deflection knob scale of the gunner periscope shall be set at four. The turret shall be traversed in a clockwise direction without over travel and vertical line of the gunner periscope reticle shall be laid on a fixed well defined vertical aiming point. The zero of the gunner aid (outer movable dial) on the azimuth indicator shall be positioned in line with the 1 mil pointer. The turret shall be traversed approximately 50 mils clockwise and returned counterclockwise to zero without
over travel as read on the gunner azimuth indicator. The deflection boresight knob shall be
rotated until the vertical line of the gunner periscope reticle is realined with the original aiming point. The difference between the original position and the final reading on the deflection boresight knob scale is backlash error and shall not exceed 0.5 mils.
