4.7 Painting, finish, marking and data plates. The FISTV vehicle shall be visually examined to verify conformance to requirements of 3.6.1 through 3.6.4.
4.8 Workmanship. The FISTV vehicle shall be examined to determine conformance to 3.8.
4.9 Preservation, packaging, and vehicle processing inspection. Material and equipment
shall be inspected, prior to shipment, to determine conformance to Section 5 of this specification. Sampling shall be as specified in applicable packaging specification reference therein.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preparation for delivery. Preparation for delivery and storage shall be in accordance with MIL-T-62327.
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. The FISTV (M981) vehicle is intended for, but not limited to fire support operations. The M981 must be air transportable and capable of crossing inland waterways under its own power.
6.2 Ordering data. Procurement documents should specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of this specification. b. M981 (FISTV) Drawing 8750031 required.
c. If first article samples are not required (see 3.1).
d. If welding repairs are authorized, and extent allowed (see 3.4.5). e. If winterization equipment is required (see 3.5.25.1).
f. Painting, protective finish, marking, and data plates, if other than specified
(see 3.6).
g. If responsibility for inspection shall be other than as specified (see 4.1). h. If responsibility for inspection equipment shall be other than as specified
(see 4.1.1).
i. If Inspection conditions shall be other than as specified (see 4.3).
J. If preproduction inspection is required (see 4.3).
k. If initial production inspection is not required (see 4.4.2).
l. Selection of applicable level and packaging standard or packaging data sheet
(see 5.1).
6.3 Process average. Sampling may be initiated if the process average value for the first twenty vehicles inspected is less than the AQL specified in the classification of defects for maJor and minor defects.
Process average = Number of defects x 100
Number of vehicles inspected
If the computed process average exceeds the specified AQL, 100 percent inspection shall be performed and continued until such time that the process average for twenty consecutive vehicles is less than the specified AQL.
